Underground prison.

Ok. So what so great about this place? This was built as early as 9th century to protect one of the main roads to Great St Bernard pass to Italy. But its fame only came when it became the setting of English poet Byron’s “The Prisoner of Chillon” (inspired by François Bonivard who was imprisoned there) when the castle was used as the state prison in the 16th century.
